| Field notes | Solitary. Stem to 1.5 m tall, 2 - 3 cm diam, light brown, smooth, internodes 2 - 3 cm long. Leaves 3 - 6 in the crown. Sheath and petiole 61 - 85 cm long, open to the base, sheathing for the basal 10 - 15 cm, rounded below, flat above with sharp margins between the two surfaces, purplish. Rachis 41 - 45 cm long, angled above almost from base. Pinnae 3 - 4 per side, all with more than one primary nerve. Primary nerves 33 per side. Inflorescence interfoliar, green and erect when young, purple and pendulous in the fruiting stage. Ripe fruits globose, black. |
