Field notes Diameter at base 5 cm, basal internodes 8.5 cm long; roots to 65 cm long, 1.5 cm in diam, with lenticels, some roots branching, root cone with basal diameter of 63 cm, stem diameter at breast height 5 cm, nodes 14 cm long at breast height, 57 internodes along the stem, apical internodes 3 cm long, apical diameter 4 cm; leafsheaths closed for 34 cm, sheath and petiole 85 cm; petiole 1.6 cm in diam below the blade, petiole round below, grooved above; rachis 152 cm long, rounded below, ridged above, with 2 x 27 pinnae regularly distributed, with minor displacement making pinnae opposite in some areas and alternate in others, largest pinnae 70 x 5.5 cm, pinnae above with conspicuous ridges, below glabrous and conspicuous midrib. Plants dioecious. Female plant with one inflorescence per node, mature infructescence inserted 8 nodes below the lowest leaf; base reaching 1/3 around the stem, prophyll deciduous inserted 0.7 cm from base of peduncle; first peduncular bract deciduous inserted 0.5 cm above the prophyll; 2nd bract 1.2 cm above prophyll, 3rd bract inserted 3 cm above prophyll;, 4 th bract 7 cm above prophyll; peduncle 11 cm long, oval in cross section, 1 x 1.2 cm in cross section; rachis 8 cm long; rachillae 12, longest (basal) rachillae 15 cm long; fruits up to 12 per rachillae, orange when ripe, obliquely ovoid, 2 x 1.6 cm.
