Field notes Solitary with one sucker at base. Stem 70 cm tall, 6 cm in diam., base with small clump of deep red adventitous roots. Internodes ca. 2 cm long, smooth light brown. Crown of 5 leaves, with erect base; sheath ca. 40 cm long, open mostly to the base, in old leaves, closed in the inner most ones; petiole 60 cm long round in cross section, dark green with brown furfaceous indumentum, 1.3 cm in diam. Blade 179 x 90 cm , pinnae 2 x 32, basal one 43 x 2 cm, middle one 59 x 3.7 cm, apical one 25 x 2 cm, rachis rounded below, rigded above. Inflorescence infrafoliar. Prophyll 37 x 3 cm, bicarinate. Peduncular bract inserted 4 cm from base of peduncle, 83 cm long, round, 1.3 cm in diam. Rachis 20 cm long. Rachillae 15, longest (basal) one 32 cm long, shortest (apical) one 25 cm long. Peduncle and rachillae greenish red. Immature fruits green.
