Field notes Solitary. On terra firme. Stem 125 cm high, 1.3-1.8 mm diam, erect, straight, yellow brown, ringed, internodes 4-7 cm long. Leaves 15, inserted along the apical 35 cm of the stem. Sheath open to the base in lower leaves, closed for 11 cm in upper leaves. Petiole 16 cm long, rounded below, flat above, with sharp margins, brown furfuraceous below in young leaves. Blade entire, cuneate at base, bifid at apex, 85 x 22 cm; rachis 55 cm long, blade smooth above, brown furfuraceous below, especially on rachis and primary nerves of young leaves. Inflorescence interfoliar, simple, spikelike, drooping, dark red, flowers white. Peduncle 12 cm long, red, slightly flattened. Prophyll 15 x 1.7 cm. Peduncular bract absent. Peduncle with fine white scales below prophyll. Rachis 23 x 1 cm.
