| Field notes | On terra firme. Solitary. Stem 10 cm long, 4 cm diam. (other individuals seen with stems to 60 cm long), light brown with densely inserted leafscars; the base with numerous adventitious roots to 2 mm thick, these all below the ground. Leaves 9, erect.Sheath open to the base and not distinguishable from the petiole in the lower leaves, closed for ca. 15 cm in the upper leaves. Sheath and petiole of outer leaves 115 - 125 cm long together, green, smooth, rounded below, flat above with sharp margins between the two surfaces. Petiole of upper leaves ca. 70 cm long, brown furfuraceous below. Rachis 55 - 65 cm long, rounded below, ridged above, brown furfuraceous in young leaves. Pinnae 7 - 10 per side, unequally wide with 2 - 13 primary veins, linear or slightly sigmoid, long acuminate, basal pinna 30 x 3 cm, middle pinna 40 x 4 cm, apical pinna 38 - 44 x 6 10 cm. Inflorescence interfoliar, erect at first, later bending away from the center. Peduncle 28 - 40 cm, dorsiventrally flattened, ca. 5 mm wide, cream coloured at base, red at apex. Prophyll 14 x 1 - 2 cm, light brown, thin. Peduncular bract inserted ca. 0.5 cm from the base of the peduncle, 13 cm long, thin, light brown and enclosed in the prophyll. Rachis 6 - 7 cm long, greenish yellow at first, turning red. Rachillae 6 7, 12 - 14 cm long, greenish yellow at first, turning red, 3 mm thick. |
