| Field notes | Solitary. Stem 3 m long, 4.5 - 5 cm diam., procumbent for 80 cm, erect for 220 cm, clearly ringed by node 2 - 4 cm apart; internodes thicker just below node, tapering towards the next node downwards, smooth yellow brown. Leaves ca. 22, spreading with age, wedgeshaped at base, bifid at apex, divided into 3 segments per side separated by 5 - 10 cm long rachis segments; sheath and petiole not distinct in older leaves, the sheath open to the base; the two 50 cm long together, rounded below flat above with a sharp margin between the two sides, smooth but overgrown with mosses and algae, sheath of upper leaves closed for 20 cm, petiolar part 10 cm. Rachis 160 cm, rounded below, flat above in lower 1/3, ridged above in upper 2/3. Blade 190 x 55 cm, lower leafsegment 117 x 20 cm, middle leaf segments 75 x 20 cm, apical leafsegment 60 x 20 cm; young blades brown furfuraceous on rachis and primary nerves. Infructescence interfoliar, erect; peduncle 50 cm, terete and slightly dorsoventrally flattened; prophyll 33 x 5 cm; peduncular bract 40 x 4 cm, inserted ca. 7 cm from the base of the peduncle; rachis 10 cm; rachillae 8, 25 - 30 cm long, 1.3 cm thick. Immature fruits green, 10 x 12 mm, subspherical. |
