Field notes Cespitose with 2-3 stems of different sizes. Stem 2 m tall, 1.8-2 cm wide, patchy green and brown; internodes 7-8 cm long; nodes conspicous. Leaves 6, spreading; sheath of basal leaf ca. 3 cm long, green, smooth, 2.5 cm diam ar base, 3 cm diam at top, split open about half way down, the 2nd and all following sheaths closed to the top and forming a 50 cm long "crownshaft" from which the petioles emerge ca. 5 cm apart. Petiole ca. 20 cm long, rounded below, flat above, margins not sharp. Blade pinnately divided with 3-4 pinnae per side, the pinnae unequally wide with 2-14 primary nerves, 5-20 cm wide, 60-80 cm long, apically acuminate, rachis 70-75 cm long, rounded below, ridged above, smooth in old leaves, brown furfuracous in young leaves. Inflorescence bud infrafoliar, pointing upwards at 45 degrees; peduncle 6 cm long, base dorsiventrally flattened green, from prophyll upwards rounded cream colloured; prophyll inserted 2.5 cm from base of peduncle, 18 x 3 cm, green, smooth; peduncular bract round in cross section ca. 40 cm long purplish to green, smooth, inserted 4 cm from base of peduncle; rachis 8 cm long, cream coloured to 38 cm long.
