| Field notes | Solitary. Stem ca. 2 m tall, erect, 1 cm diam, internodes 5 cm long, smooth, greenish brown. Leaves 12, inserted along the upper 80 cm of the stem, spreading; sheath of lower leaves open to the base and not distinguishable from the petiole; petiole and sheath 25 cm long, below rounded, green smooth, above green smooth, channeled at the base, flat in the middle; the upper part of petiole subterete. Blade entire or divided into 2-3 segments per side, acute at base, bifid at apex, margins paralellel, 45 x 20 cm, mat green below, glossy green above, primary nerves ca. 25 per side; rachis 35 cm long, green smooth, rounded below, ridged above. Inflorescence interfoliar, erect spicate; peduncle 2-3 cm long; prophyll inserted base, 8 cm long, 2 cm wide, caducous, brown furfuraceous; peduncular bract reduced to a rim around the petiole ca. in the middle. Rachis (incl. flowers), just emerging from the prophyll 10 x 1.3 cm; with old flowers 11 x 1.9 cm; with young fruits 7.5 x 2.5 cm (top broken off). Young fruits green, oblong 10 x 6 mm, mesocarp thin, white; endocarp watery. |
