Field notes Stem solitary, slightly leaning, 15 m tall, 18 cm diam at base, 13 cm diam at apex, supported by a loose cone of ca. 30 stiltroots 1 m x 6 cm with sharp spines. Leaves 5, spreading; crownshaft 110 cm, violet, green, (lvs cleanly abscissing); petiole 25 x 6 cm, channelled above, rounded below, no ligule; rachis 212 cm; pinnae 27, divided into 4-6-5-6-7-5-5-5-6-8-7-8-7-1-2-2-1-2-4-4-5-4-2-1-2-1-1-1, segments, at different angles, pendulous at apex, lower 37 x 2 cm, middle 93 x 9 (lower segment), upper 21 x 1.5 cm. Margins of segments entire, slightly praemorse at apex. Inflorescence buds erect, on a rim, 8 per node. Staminate inflorescences; peduncle 20 x 3 cm; prophyll 6 x 7 cm; peduncular bracts 4, first one tubular 8 x 7 cm, second tubular 12 x 7.5 cm, third one split, 27 cm, fourth one split 41 cm; rachis 26 cm; rachillae 57, from 6.5 5 cm. Bracts green & glabrous. Infructescence: peduncle 18 x 4.5; prophyll 7.5 x 10 cm; bracts 4, 1st 10 x 8 cm, 2nd 14 x 8 cm, 3rd 35 cm, 4th 42 cm; fruit cluster 38 x 16 cm. One inflorescence bud with predominantly staminate flowers but also a few pistillate flowers present.
