| Field notes | Stem cespitose, 3 m tall, 7 cm diam. Sheaths forming a 1 m long purple crownshaft. Leaves 8, petiole 32 cm; rachis 168 cm; pinnae 43 per side; lower 40 x 0.5 cm, middle 76 x 3.5 cm, apical 40 x 1.8 cm. Infructescence infrafoliar, at right angles to stem; peduncle 8 cm; rachis 43 cm long; rachillae whitish, inserted all the way round the rachis and spreading, 111, 34 - 61 cm long. Very common in tidally flooded areas along the Rio Cayapas between La Tola and Borbon. N.v. 'palmiche'. |
