Field notes Stem solitary, erect, 8 m tall, 17 cm diam. at base, 16 cm diam. at apex, with distinct nodes 3-10 cm apart. Leaves 4; sheaths forming a 2 m crownshaft covered with 2 old sheaths, greyish green, petiole 22 x 4 cm, rounded, rachis 342 cm, round below, ridged above, pinnae 40 per side, lower 18 x 3 cm, middle 134 x 13 cm, apical one entire 35 x 20 cm. Buds 2 per node, covered with persistent decaying leaf sheaths. Unripe fruits green. Staminate inflorescence (bud) with prophyll 40 cm long, flattened, ancipitous, 15 cm wide, splitting initially along both margins; peduncular bracts 5, apiculate, green; rachillae straight in bud.
