| Field notes | Stem cespitose, 5 m tall, 8 cm diam. at base, 6.5 cm at apex, covered with persistent decaying leaf sheaths, nodes 6 - 8 cm apart. Leaves 9, sheaths not forming a crownshaft (but an individual growing among this population has a distinct green crownshaft and is apparently the same species ), 35 cm long, fibrous at the apex, persistent and decaying, closed; petiole green, 15 cm long, flat above, round below; rachis 2 m long; pinnae 43 per side, lower one 47 x O.5 cm, middle one 68 x 3 cm, apical one 25 x 2 cm. Inflorescences infrafoliar, erect at first, becoming arched, 180 cm long in bud, peduncle 83 - 93 cm long, round, reddish; prophyll 53 cm long, 5 cm wide, peduncular bract 155 cm long, hanging down at anthesis; rachis 82 cm long, rachillae 60, 29 - 53 cm long, whitish in flower, reddish in fruit, ripe fruits black (flower pink at anthesis). |
