| Field notes | Stem cespitose, 10 m tall, 7 cm diam. at base with upper leaf sheaths persistent. Leaves 6; sheaths 60 cm long, heavily armed with black spines to 8 cm long; petiole 1 m long, green, smooth, not spiny, rounded; rachis 2.1 m long, not spiny, round below, ridged above; in groups of 2 - 4, in different planes, lower pinna 39 x 4 cm, middle one 48 x 18, apical one 44 x 26 cm. Infructescence interfoliar, arching; peduncle 150 cm long, spiny; prophyll 80 x 4 cm, spiny on outside, yellowish and smooth on inside. Peduncular bract 196 cm long, smooth, rachis 76 cm; rachillae 34, 5 - 50 cm long; immature fruit globose, 2 cm diam., yellowish-green. |
