| Field notes | Stem solitary, erect, 22 m tall, 17 cm diam. at base, 14 cm diam. at apex, grey, smooth, supported by a cone of ca. 30 stilt roots, 2,5 m x 8 cm spiny, brown. Leaves 4, spreading; sheaths forming a prominent 2 m crownshaft, green; petiole 50 cm x 4 cm, green, terete; rachis 260 cm long; pinnae 23 per side, divided into 3 - 2 - 2 - 4 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7 - 7 - 7 - 7 - 6 - 7 - 6 - 6 - 6 - 4 - 5 - 4 - 4 -2 -1 -1 segments, slightly pendulous at top but not recurved like S. exorrhiza. Inflorescence infrafoliar. Peduncle 34 cm long, 4,5 - 7 cm diam.; rachis 8 cm; rachillae 6, 10 mm thick when fresh at mid-point. |
