Field notes Staminate tree. Stem solitary, erect, 12 m tall, 20 cm diam. at base, 14 cm at apex, internodes green, smooth, ca. 30 cm long, nodes covered with Usnea. Leaves 10, spreading; sheath on inner leaves closed, 90 cm long, thick, woody, brown; petiole 50 cm long, 5 cm diam. green, rounded below, flat above with slight ridge continuous into rachis, with sharp margins; rachis 155 cm long, rounded below with silvery tomentum, ridged above; pinnae 98 per side, arranged in groups of 3 - 5 and spreading at different angles, green above, silvery white below; an old inflorescence on the ground with peduncle 125 cm long and at least six persistent bracts; an inflorescence bud within the leaf sheaths with prophyll 36 cm long and open abaxially, and 6 peduncular bracts from 54 106 cm long.
