Field notes Stem erect, solitary, grey, 10 m tall, 10 cm diam., supported by 2.5 m cone of 25 ca. 7 cm thick densely spiny stiltroots. Leaves 7, spreading; sheaths forming a 1.5 m long grey-green crownshaft; petiole 25 x 4 cm, terete, densely whittish brown tomentose; rachis 170 cm long, rounded below, ridged above; pinnae 25 per side, divided into 1-1-4-5-5-7-8-8-8-7-8-7-8-9-9-9-8-7-2-5-4-2-1-1-1 segments; proximal segments of middle pinna long, thin, erect to horizontal, distal segment shorter, wider and pendulous deeply praemorse, but entire along its proximal margin, proximal segment the widest of the linear segments; inflorescence bud (within sheath) 70 cm long, 12 cm wide deeply praemorse, but entire along its proximal margin proximal segment the widest of the lonear segmonts; at widest point; prophyll 16 cm long, apiculate abaxially, splitting adaxially to base; 1st peduncular bract inserted 2.5 cm above prophyll, 28 cm long, apiculate abaxially, split to base adaxially, 2nd peduncular bract inserted 1.5 cm above first, 43 cm long, ancipitous, apiculate adaxially (different from first 2 bracts), split almost to base abaxially; 3rd peduncular bract inserted 2 cm above 2nd, still completely closed, 60 cm long, not ancipitous, strongly apiculate, with ca. 8 mm long non-splitting apex thicker than rest of bracts; 4th peduncular bract inserted 3 cm above 3rd, 50 cm long, entire, not strongly apiculace like the 3rd, all bracts creamy white/yellow and covered externally with white tomentum; peduncle 19 cm long, 4 cm diam. at middle, densely covered with woolly white tomentum; rachis 9 cm long, rachillae 11, 29 - 34 cm long, 6 - 7 mm thick at mid-point, densely covered with flowers; flowers creamy white, staminate flower at base of rachilla with 129 yellow stamens, flower from middle of rachilla with 100 stamens, and a flower from apex of rachillae with a pistillode and 60 stamens. Triads surrounded by a low apiculate bract. An infructescence with no fruits; rachillae 10, 8 - 9 mm diam. at mid-point, 58 - 65 cm long.
