| Field notes | Cespitose with one well developed stem and two small sideshoots. Stem completely covered by old leafsheaths to the base. Base supported by ca. 1 cm thick, 20 cm long aereal roots. Stem included in leafsheaths ca. 80 cm long, 5 cm diam. Leaves 4, erect. Petiole 90 cm long, with brown tomentum in young leaves, terete with adaxial channel towards the base. Rachis 122 cm long, rounded below, ridged above, pinnae 33 per side, all in one plane except for the basal 2 - 3 which are erect, all pinnae linear, and long acuminate. Basal pinna 39 x 2.5 cm, middle pinna 46 x 4.5 cm, apical pinna 16 x 1 cm. Inflorescence infrafoliar, erect at base, arching to horizontal at anthesis. Peduncle 46 cm long, rounded and slightly dorsoventrally flattened, creamy white at base, brown at top. Prophyll 20 cm long, 2 cm wide, inserted at base of peduncle. Peduncular bract one, inserted 7 cm from the base, 62 cm long, tubular and closed along the peduncle, splits open to become 3 cm wide along the rachis. Rachis 8 cm long. Rachillae 10, basal one 20 cm long, apical one 16 cm long, white. Flowers white at anthesis. Siona: Nai Uses: no uses. (Birds eat the seed.) |
