Field notes Cespitose, stem ca. 1.5 m tall, 1.5 cm thick, internodes ca. 3 cm long at the top, light brown. Leaves 10 along the upper 40 cm of the stem, spreading. Sheath and petiole not distinct, ca. 20 cm long together, sheath open to the base in old leaves, petiole rounded below, flat above, margin sharp, petiole finely brwon tomentose. Rachis 43 cm long, finely brown tomentose below. Blade entire, bifid, 61 x 23 cm, split for the upper 18 cm, with 32 primary veins per side. Inflorescence interfoliar, spicate, first erect, later pendulous, prophyll 10 cm long, peduncular bract dehiscent; peduncle 7 cm long, rounded, 7 mm thick; fertile part 20 cm long, 1 cm thick, deep red when fruiting, fruits first green then black, elongate ca. 7 mm long
