| Field notes | Solitary, stem 1 m tall, ca. 7 mm diam. Leaves 5. Sheath 12 cm long, brown at base, green at top, closed halfway up. Petiole 16 cm long, green, terete with a shallow groove above. Rachis 15 cm, green, rounded below, ridged above. Pinnae 2 - 3 per side, sigmoid, acuminate, 13 - 20 x 3 - 7 cm. Infructescence infrafoliar, emerging through the leafsheath, peduncle, U-shaped, erect in the sheath and drooping outside it, 3.5 cm long, terete, flattened, bending laterally out of the sheath, cream coloured at base, green above. Prophyll 2.5 x 0.5 cm, peduncular bract inserted 1 cm from base, 45 cm long. Rachis simple 1.5 cm long, spike like with 7 fruits. Fruit globose, finely apiculate, 7 - 8 mm diam., bright orange. Mesocarp fleshy orange, ca. 1 mm thick, endocarp black, hard. |
