Field notes Stem solitary, 19 m tall, 14 cm diam. at base, 12 cm diam. at apex. Base with 70 cm high cone of black spiny stiltroots, roots 3 cm diam. Upper part of stem rough and textured from grooves from inflorescences, smooth, grey or brown further down. Crownshaft 93 cm long, green, swollen at base. Leaves 7, spreading. Petiole 15 cm, terete, 3 cm thick, brown tomentose. Rachis 220 cm long, rounded below, ridged above, brown tomentose. Pinnae 35 per side, subopposite, all in one plane, evenly spaced, basal pinna 33 x 4 cm, middle pinna 83 x 20 cm, apical pinna entire, 18 cm long, 7 cm wide. Inflorescence buds 9 per node. Lowest fertile node with solitary central infructescence; peduncle 16 cm long, round with 6 peduncular bract, first 3 bracts short and tubular, upper 3 bracts to 22 cm long and splitting longitudinally; rachis absent; rachillae 4, 15 cm long, densely covered with fruits, 6.5 cm thick including the fruits . Second lowest fertile node with single, solitary, immature infructescence. Third fertile node with central immature infructescence, on either side of this two fallen buds, on each side of these 3 more buds, all 6 of these buds staminale (male-male-male-scar-female-scar-male-male-male). Next node with 9 very small buds.
