Field notes Non spiny understory palm. Stem cespitose, two stems well developed, 1.8 m tall. Two suckers, one with entire, bifid leaves. Stem 1 cm thick. Leaves 10, inserted along the upper 50 cm of the stem, sheath 15 cm, closed below petiole. Petiole 22 cm long, rounded below, flattened and shallowly grooved above, densely brown tomentose at first. Rachis 21 cm, up to 4 pinnae per side, solitary or in groups of two, sigmoid and of different widths. Basal pinna 21 x 7 cm, middle pinna 20 x 3.5 cm, apical pinna 20 x 7 cm. Inflorescence buds emerging through the sheath below the petiole. (One inflorescence bud only in alcohol).
