Field notes Solitary understory palm, ca. 1.5 m tall. Stem straight, smooth, spineless, ca. 8 mm diam., dark brown, internodes ca. 8 cm long. Leaves 6, inserted along the apical 20 cm of the stem. Sheath 3 - 4 cm long, encircling the stem, green. Petiole 13 - 20 cm long, terete, with a shallow groove above, 2 - 3 mm diam. Blade simple, bifid, 'rachis' 7 - 8 cm long; segment one per side, lanceolate, 19 x 6 cm. Inflorescences infrafoliar, two wilted ones and one just past fruiting, peduncle 5 cm x 3 - 4 mm, erect and adpressed to stem for proximal two thirds, bending sideways and horizontal for apical one third; prophyll 2.5 x 0.5 cm, bicarinate inserted at base; peduncular bract 6 cm x 6 mm, erect, inserted 1 cm from base of peduncle; fertile part simple, unbranched, horizontal, 2 cm long with scars from ca. 10 fruits. .
