Field notes Solitary. Aereal roots, light brown, 1 cm thick, 20 cm long, with small nodules. Stem green, 3 m tall, 3.5 cm diam., internodes 2-6 cm long. Crownshaft prominent, with closed sheaths, slightly swollen at base by presence of inflorescence buds, yellowish white, 70 cm long. Leaves 6, spreading. Petiole green, 47 cm long, rounded below, channelled above with rounded margins. Rachis green, smooth, 180 cm long, rounded below, ringed above. Pinnae 26 per side , equal and equally spaced along the rachis; basal pinna 51 x 3 cm, parallel to petiole; middle pinna 78 x 8 cm, apical pinna 39 x 8 cm, all pinnae arranged in one plane. One mature, 3 immature infrutescence and one femaleinflorescence inserted singly at the 5 uppermost nodes below the crownshaft. Mature infrutescence green, pendulous, peduncle 34 cm long, green, rounded, with 5 scars from peduncular bracts, bracts not persistent; rachis green, 18 cm long; rachillae 16, ca 20 cm long, green, ripe fruits bright red, globose, 2 cm diam. Immature infrutescences pale green, fruits 1 cm long, otherwise like mature infrutescence. Inflorescence, creamy white in all parts, sweetly scented, peduncular bracts decaying before anthesis.
