Field notes Solitary tree on steep roadbank. Base with a 40 cm dense cone of 1 cm thick adventitious roots. Trunk 450 cm high, 7 cm in diam, green with 15-25 cm long internodes and obvious rings from the leafscars. Crownshaft 90 cm long, green with one persisting wilted leafsheath, outer sheath closed from base to top. Leaves 6, spreading; petiole 26 cm long, rounded below, grooved above, margin between upper and lower surface rounded, rachis 156 cm, rounded below, "triangular" above, pinnae 30 per side arranged in one plane, basal pinna 50 x 2 cm, middle pinna 77 x 9 cm, upper pinnae 28 x 3 cm. Inflorescences 10 per node, higest node with two at anthesis, 2nd with one old but not wilted, 3rd and 4th node with wilted inflorescences. Of 10 inflorescences at upper node nos. 1-3 (from one side) in bud, no. 4 at anthesis, no. 5 after anthesis, no. 6 at anthesis, nos. 7-10 in bud. Peduncle with 4 sterile bracts, peduncle 26 cm long, 1 cm thick, rachis 17 cm, rachillae 25, 6-10 cm long, densely covered with male flowers. Whole inflorescence cream coloured, bracts green, basal ones wilted brown.
