| Field notes | Cespitose tree on steep slope in ravine with some leftover dense forest. Trunk 9 m tall, 10 - 12 cm thick with internodes 15 - 20 cm and obvious rings from leafscars, the lower parts brown with longitudinal fissures, the upper parts green and completely smooth. Crownshaft 95 cm long, green with brown tint, smooth, the outermost leafsheath split open til 3O cm from the base; blades 9, spreading, petiole 47 cm long, rounded below, above flat with a wide rounded rim, margin between the two surfaces sharp; rachis 260 cm, rounded below, with two flat lateral sides where the pinnae are inserted, with a flat part between the two lateral sides on the lower 1/3 of the rachis, triangular in the upper 2/3 of the rachis. Pinnae 41 per side, alternately inserted at regular intervals and arranged in one plane, lower pinnae 54 x 0.5 cm, middle pinna 74 x 5 cm, upper pinnae 24 x 1.5 cm. Infruc-tescence inserted at 9th node below the crownshaft, pointing upwards at 45° angle, tip dropping; peduncle 9 cm long, swollen to a clump at the base and gripping 180° around the stem; rachis 33 cm long 2 cm thick at the base, gradually tapering to 0; rachillae 36, 20 30 cm long, yellowish brown with fruits inserted regularly along their entire length, fruits ca. 1 cm diam., spherical, black when ripe assymetrical with the style scar ca. 45° removed from the center. Inflorescence and inflorescence bud collected 6 km further west at 1450 m. |
