Field notes Solitary tree on escarpment towards the river. Base with numerous ca. 1 cm thick roots emerging up to 50 cm from the ground. Trunk 8 m tall, 30 cm diam. throughout, very uneven from spirally arranged leafscars. Infrutescences ca. 20 originating all the way around the trunk and emerging from 1 m high, 80 cm wide clump of remaining leafbases and fibers. Each infrutescence on 40 cm long, 8 cm wide, dorsiventrally compressed peduncle with two sheathing bracts. Fruits ca. 16 arranged in a round ca. 30 cm wide capitula. Fruits up to 10 x 15 cm, base with fine Warts, top with pyramidal fibrous extensions. Leaves ca. 10; petiole 53 cm long, 6 cm wide below the blade, adaxially rounded, abaxially flat with two slightly sunken grooves, margin between ad- and abaxial sides sharp. Rachis 497 cm long, pinnae 106 per side inserted in groups of varying numbers and diverging to different directions, basal pinna 45 cm, middle pinna 100 cm, apical pinna 31 cm.
