| Field notes | Stem solitary, erect, 14.5 m tall, 35 cm diam at base, 33 cm diam at apex, with adventitious roots for 30 cm at base. Leaves 13, in five vertical rows; sheath fibrous adaxially but a continuation of the petiole abaxially, and only petiolar part persistent; petiole and sheath 4.1 m long, 50 cm wide at base, narrowing gradually to 10 cm wide at apex, rounded below, channeled above, with sharp margins; rachis 9.6 m long, round below; pinnae 253 per side, in groups of 3-5, spreading at different angles, at base of rachis 76 cm long and 1 cm wide, middle and apical ones collected. Inflorescences either staminate or androgynous, androgynous ones larger; staminate inflorescences with peduncle approx. 1 m long, 5.5 cm wide, dorsoventrally compressed, arched; prophyll bicarinate, dorsiventrally compressed, 160 cm long, 31 cm wide, fibrous at apex, persistent in leaf-sheath; peduncular bract 2.5 m long, closely sheathing peduncle for 50 cm and then widening abruptly to 48 cm and narrowing abruptly for apical 35 cm, longitudinally furrowed on outside, woody, brown; rachis 70 cm long, round in cross-section; rachillae 794, up to 13 cm long, with old persistent staminate flowers.
