| Field notes | Solitary on slope in terra firme. Acaulescent; rhizome subterranean, 12 cm long, 5 cm thick, horizontal and ascending at the top, with many roots arising from the sides and lower surface. Leaves 15, in a dense rosette, erect and bending towards the tip; the leaf-base reaching about half-way round the stem c. 6 cm wide, narrowing to 2 cm after 5 cm; petiole c. 35 cm, rounded and green below, flat or slightly concave above, narrowing to 1 cm at the blade, the margin between the two surfaces winged; blade entire, base wedge-shaped, decurrent, apex bifid, 150 cm long, 35 cm wide, lamina plicate, tips falcate, rachis 110 cm long rounded below, triangular or ridged above. Inflorescence spicate, infrafoliar; peduncle 55 cm long, 7 mm wide at top, dorsiventrally flattened with rounded edges; prophyll inserted at base, 17 cm long, 1.5 cm wide, bicarinate, thin fibrous, yellowish brown at base, dark brown at top, splitting irregularly at the top; ped. bract inserted 2 cm from the base, 42 cm long, 1.2 cm wide, dorsiventrally flattened, edges somewhat sharp, thin fibrous, yellowish brown at base, dark brown at apex; spike (bud) 22 cm long, 1.2 cm wide with triangular markings all the way round, tip 1 cm, mucronate. |
