Field notes Caespitose in flat land (occasionally flooded?) forest. Stem erect, 90 cm tall, 5.5 cm diam., the base with a 30 cm high, 20 cm wide cone of adventitious roots, the middle and upper parts covered with old leaf-sheaths and overgrown with mosses and liverworts. Leaves 6, erect, sheath 37 cm long, closed for half its length, light yellow at base, green higher up; petiole 155 cm long, 4 cm (basally) to 1.5 cm (apically) wide, below rounded, green, smooth, above smooth, brown basally, green apically, concave towards the base, rounded towards the blade; blade elongate, apically rounded, paripinnate, reduplicate with 36 pinnae per side; rachis 196 cm, rounded and smooth below, triangular and striate above; basal pinnae 47 cm long, 7 mm wide; middle pinnae 81 cm long, 4 cm wide with midrib only slightly more conspicuous than the 4-5 secondary ribs on each side, apices long acuminate; apical pinnae 40 cm long, 2 cm wide. Inflorescence bud infrafoliar in axils of old persistent leaf-sheaths; prophyll persistent, inserted at base of peduncle, 37 cm long, 4 cm wide, bicarinate, apically blunt, the margins sharp cracked, the base cream-coloured going through reddish to green near the apex, splitting apically; peduncular bract inserted 6 cm from base, 90 cm long, 1 cm wide at the middle, apically pointed, base white, middle and upwards green with brown tomentum. Inflorescence infrafoliar, emerging from axils of the persistent old leaf-sheaths, the base erect, then bending outwards and slightly nodding; peduncle 49-75 cm long, 1-2 cm wide, rounded and dorsiventrally flattened at the base, 0.5-1.3 mm wide and round apically, white basally, reddish brown with fine brown tomentum apically; prophyll inserted at the base, 18-35 cm long, 2.5-5 cm wide, bicarinate, bluntly acute at apex, the margin sharp, brown, the base cream-coloured going through reddish green to brown at the apex; peduncular bract persistent, inserted 7-12 cm from the base, sheathing the peduncle for 15-40 cm, split open adaxially, except for the apical 7 cm, 88-122 cm long, 3.5-4.5 cm wide, less than 1 mm thick, leathery brown, hanging down from the open inflorescence; rachis 11-31 cm long, round, changing from red to cream-coloured; rachillae 10-13, simple, basal ones 36-75 cm long apical ones 30-60 cm long, base swollen, sterile for 2.5-8 cm (basally) to 0.5-1 cm (apically), finely pubescent, cream-coloured, flowers in triads, sessile. Infructescence red; fruits black, spherical, 7 mm, exocarp thin, mesocarp thin, fleshy, endocarp hard fibrous. Duplicates: AAU, QCA, QCNE.
