Field notes Pistillate inflorescences: Peduncle white, dorsoventrally compressed, 23 cm long, 4 cm wide; prophyll bicarinate, greenish brown, 21 cm long, 6 cm wide, splitting apically, acute at apex; peduncular bract lanceolate in outline, oval in cross-section, brown outside and inside, 32 cm long, splitting abaxially longitudinally, erect; rachis 4 cm long with ca. 10 densely crowded flowers; flowers subtended by a long acuminate bract; sepals ca. 5, thin, up to 5 cm long; petals ca. 5, fleshy, up to 14 cm long; style 10 cm long; stigmas 5, up to 4 cm long; ovary surrounded by numerous staminodes; all flower parts ivory-coloured. Staminate Inflorescences: Peduncle at anthesis 42 cm long, 3.5 cm wide, dorso-ventrally compressed, cream-coloured, erect initially but pendulous at anthesis; prophyll 40 cm long, 5.5 cm wide, bicarinate, green with longitudinal fissures, splitting subapically, abaxially; peduncular bract 33 cm long, inserted 23 cm above base and peduncle and adnate to it, brown outside and inside, splitting longitudinally abaxially at anthesis; peduncle with 6 more incomplete bracts above, these acute from 9 to 2 cm long; rachis 30 cm long, densely covered and obscured by stamens; staminate flowers consisting of a low bract surrounding numerous stamens.
