Field notes Roots not visble. Stem 3.9 m tall, 10 cm diam., solitary, dark grey. Leaves 12; sheaths forming fibrous crown shaft 80 cm long, individual sheath with thick non-fibrous part and very fibrous thin part, 47 cm long; petiole 40 cm long, dark red; rachis 160 cm long, dark red brown; pinnae 11 per side, unequally spaced, with several ribs. Inflorescence erect, partially obscured by leaf-sheaths, at enthesis erect and rachillae still tightly bunched by persistent, very fibrous prophyll and peduncular bract. Staminate flowers white, scented (protandrous?). Duplicates: AAU, CAY, K, NY, QCA.
