| Field notes | Stem solitary, 1.7 - 6 m tall, 10 cm diam at base, with 30 cm cone of roots at base. Leaves 9, crown shaft 110 cm, not consisting of outer leaf sheath but with several old sheaths; sheaths fibrous at apex; petiole 22 cm, reddish, 3.5 cm wide at base, 2.5 cm at apex; rachis 187 cm with 49 pinnae horizontally spreading per side, basal pinnae 43 cm x 9 mm, middle pinnae 60 cm x 3.5 cm, apical pinnae 17 cm x 2.3 cm, paripinnate. Inflorescences infrafoliar at all stages; prophyll 27 cm long, 7.5 cm wide, inserted at base of peduncle; peduncular bract 99 cm long, 10 cm wide, inserted 4 cm from base, with 8 cm long pointed tip unopened, a few additional bracts on peduncle 1-10 cm long, linear to acute; peduncle red, 31 cm long; rachis 39 cm long, ferrugineous, erect with pendulous apex; rachillae 66, 49 cm long basally, 25 cm long at apex, red ferrugineous; fruits black, endosperm ruminate.
