| Field notes | Acaulescent, caespitose, stem-base up to 7 cm in diam. Leaves 6-8, sheath 26 cm, closed for up to 12 cm, fibrous at the edges; petiole 120 cm, round in cross section, densely covered with brown scales, rachis densely covered with brown scales, up to 160 cm long with 2 x 18-27 pinnae, these alternate or opposite; rachis without scales above. Inflorescence buds interfoliar, 83 cm long; prophyll 20-40 cm long; peduncular bract 83-120 cm; peduncle 50 cm; rachis 10 cm long; rachillae 6-25. Infructescence interfoliar, arching, 133-140 cm long, prophyll 41-45 cm long, inserted 3 cm from base; peduncular bract 120 cm, inserted 17 cm from base; peduncle 60 cm, rachis 60 cm; rachillae 13-25 up to 30 cm long; fruits black.
