| Field notes | Solitary in forest floor. Stem 40 cm long, 1.5 cm in diam. semierect, first 10 cm horizontal, the rest vertical, rootfing at the nodes, emerging through a thick litter layer, colour reddish brown. Crown of 3 leaves, sheath 12 cm long, reddish at the base, green above, closed for 6 cm; petiole 13-34 cm long, rounded below, shallowly grooved above; rachis 18-29 cm; rachis cross section triangular with rounded lower surface, petiole and rachis covered with brown scales exept for a light-yellow abaxial stripe; blade 25x46 cm, 29x47 cm, (16x28 cm), with 2x3 pinnae, pinnae 4-5 nerved (a small leaf had 8 nerves), nerves of pinnae prominent, pinnae medium green above, light green below. Inflorescence erect, emerging from persistent old leaf sheath; peduncle 20 cm long dorsiventrally flattened, reddish; prophyll inserted 3.5 cm from base, 15 cm long, 0.7 cm wide, dark reddish brown; peduncular bract inserted 8.5 cm from the base, 41 cm long, closed (and enclosed by prophyll) for 12 cm at anthesis, open and 1 cm wide for 25 cm, closed and pointed for the 3 apical centimeters, reddish and glossy on the inside, brown and finely striate on the outside, erect at staminate anthesis; rachis 22 cm long reddish, round with 24 rachillae, basal ones 8 cm long, apical ones 4.5 cm long, arranged all the way round the rachis, pointing upwards at a 45 angle to the rachis, slightly swollen at the base, red, lower most rachilla with a 1 cm long membranaceous bract, rachillae 4 cm apart at the base, 1 cm apart at the apex, unevenly inserted, basal 1 cm of rachillae without flowers. Flowers arranged in triads bassaly (?) and with single staminate flowers towards the apex, all flowers pedicellatc, flowers zygomorphic(?), buds red. |
