| Field notes | Cespitose with 3 stems, up to c. 5 m tall. Stem 2.5 cm diam. with 3-5 cm broad spiny bands, 10-20 cm apart, light brown. Crown of 7 leaves arching outwards; sheath 30 cm, spiny; petiole 85 cm long, spiny; blade 85 x 60 cm with 2 x 14 pinnae inserted irregularly along the rachis in groups of 3-4. Inflorescence in the axil of lowermost leaf sheath. |
