| Field notes | A caespitose tree in primary swampforest. Trunk ascending, to 6 m tall, 5 cm in diam, with spines to 5 or 7 cm on the internodes. Crown of 4-5 leaves, each with 40-70 cm long spiny sheath and petiole; blade 150-200 cm long entire, infrutescence one per stem, infrafoliar, fruits green or slightly purple.
