| Field notes | Quichua: "Pamihua". A solitary tree growing in a swamp. The base growing on a 150 cm wide and 100 cm high mound of red 0.5 cm thick adventitious roots. Trunk 13 m long, 19 cm in diam at the base, 10 cm diam at the top, brown, finely longitudinally fisured. Crownshaft 135 x 13 cm, yellowish with dark green stripes. Crown of ca 20 leaves, petiole 18 cm long; blade 360 x 210 cm, with 91 pinnae on each side, the pinnae and the leaftip hanging down. Inflorescences 2 inserted just below the crownshaft; peduncle 13 cm, rachis ca 50 cm with ca 95 branches, rachis pointing slightly upwards, even in the fruiting stage. Uses: The trunk may be used for construction of houses as poles. The palm heart is much appreciated and good for eating raw as it leaves no bitter aftertaste as may be the case with the hart of Iriartea which therefore should be cooked.
