| Field notes | A solitary tree in pasture in cut over tropical rain forest on terra firme. The base with an inverted cone, 250 cm high, 200 cm wide of about 18 adventitious roots, individuel roots to 7 cm in diam, brown when young, turning black with age, with many ca 1 cm long pointed spines. Trunk 25 m long, 13 cm diam at the base, 11 cm diam near the top, smooth, grey, internodes not distinguishable at the base, ca 1 cm long just below the crown. Crown of 5 leaves, crownshaft 140 cm long, 9-13 cm in diam; petioles ca 30 cm long, blade 200 x 120 cm with 23 fanshaped pinnae on each side. Inflorescence 4 inserted at the 4 nodes just below the crown, upper inflorescence with male flowers open, peduncle 20 cm long, rachis 15 cm long with 11 sidebranches, longest sidebranch ca 60 cm long, hanging down, densely covered with male flowers and with small female flowersinbetween, all branches yellow; the three lower inflorescences all with young fruits and green all over, otherwise like the upper inflorescence. Spathess brown, thin, persisting until young fruiting stage. Uses: No information available. |
