| Field notes | Solitary in dense remnants of tropical forest. Trunk 5 m tall, 6-7 cm diam, smooth. Crown of 25 spreading leaves; sheath 35 cm long open to the base, petiole 90 cm long, blade ca 150 x 100 cm with 9 pinnae on each side, evenly spaced along the rachis. Inflorescences 5 of different ages; one old and dried out in the axil of the lowermost leaves, 2 fally expanded in the axil of leaves no. ca 10-12 from the base and 2 not expanded more central in the crown; peduncle erect, 70 cm long; rachis erect 40 cm long, sidebranches 15, the longest one to 45 cm long, in one inflorescence two branches (no 2-3 from the base) were bifurcating near the base, remaining branches simple; spathe 2 to each inflorescence, persisting as sheaths around the peduncle throughout the development and also on old dried out inflorescences, apex of the spathes rounded, lac??ral sides slightly winged. |
