| Field notes | Solitary in the forest floor. Stem ascending to 2 cm diam, covered with old leafsheaths, crown of 10 leaves. Inflorescences originating in axils of lower leaves, 2-3 per plant, red. Uses: No information available. Solitary tree. The base with inverted cone of over 100 black spiny adventitious roots; each root ca 3 cm in diameter, the cone ca 2 m high, 1.5 mwide. Trunk 26 m tall, 15-9 cm diam, grey, smooth, annulated towards the top. Crown of 6 spreading leaves on a 60 cm long crownshaft, petioles 30 cm long, channeled above; blade 240 x 160 cm with 16 pinnae on each side, the pinnae with the base twisted on the rachis, divided, fanshaped. Inflorescences 8 inserted at the 8 nodes just below the crown, the upper ones small, wedgeshaped, no. 6-7 bullhornlike, to 150 cm long; no. 8 expanded with female flowers (male flowers fallen off leaving oblong scars, but present on branches extracted from one of the horns, and there mixed with the female flowers), peduncle 25 cm long with 12 scars, rachis 20 cm long with 23 branches, longest branch 100 cm long, one of the branches bifurcating at the base, the rest simple, the entire inflorescence light yellow.
