| Field notes | Solitary tree. The base with an inverted cone, ca 40 cm high and 30 cm wide, of about 20 adventitious roots, the longest root ca 2.5 cm in diam, with spines with white bases, the spines sometimes growing out to tiny rootlets. The trunk 5 m tall, 6-7 cm in diam, smooth, brown, internodes 7-10 cm long. Crown of 6 leaves on a 80 cm long crownshaft, petiole 30 cm long, rounded abaxially, flat adaxially; blade 140 x 110 cm with 28 pinnae on each side. Inflorescences 5 inserted at nodes no 1 to 5 below the crown, only one inflorescence at each node; the 2 upper ones to 10 cm long and completely enclosed in the spathes, the 2 middle ones to 40 cm long, erect, completely enclosed in the spathes, torpedo shaped; the lower one expanded, peduncle 25 cm long, rachis 20 cm long; side branches 18, the longest one 45 cm long with 65 flowers, rachis and branches yellow, spathes 7, the basal 3 ones forming only a sheath on the peduncle, the upper 4 larger with expanded part, all persistent.
