Identification qualifier
Field notes Siona: "An-só". Spanish: "Yuca". A 2 m high shrub cultivated for its starchy tubers. These are eaten boiled as the main carbo hydrate source (together with Musa). The "yuca" is also used for making "chicha" which is a nourishing drink, which is sometimes left to ferment to produce an alcoholic beaverage. The plant also produces a bread baked from the mashed tubers and sweatened with Ipomoea, or it may be dried to produce a "grenola" like grain.
