Field notes Siona: No special name. Spanish: "Café". A shrub to 3 or 4 m tall. Flowers white, fragrant. Fruits green turning red at maturity. The ripe seeds are picked, dried in the sun for 3-4 days and then pealed. The seeds are then toasted and ground to a powder which is boiled in water to make a drink. The coffee is also used as an important cash crop and is sold in Tarapoa or Lago Agrio. Victoriano says he has about 80 coffe-plants in his garden and that they produce throughout the year.
