| Field notes | Siona: "Naicá". Spanish: "Palma de pantano". Clumps of 6 trees in soggy soil. The base of each tree with a small inverted cone, 30 cm high and 20 cm wide, of red 0.5 cm thick adventitious roots. Trunk to 200 cm high, 4 cm in diam, light brown, with conspicuous leaf-scars. Crown of about 8 spreading leaves; sheath 50 cm long; petiole 80 cm long; blade 200 x 120 cm with 38 pinnae on each side. Inflorescence to 2 per tree, originating below the leaves but the base covered by old rotting leafsheaths; peduncle of one of the inflorescences with an old persisting and degrading spathe, peduncle, rachis and branches red, fruits green, Uses: No uses. |
