| Field notes | (O. mapora subsp. mapora). Siona: "Huicosa". Spanish: "Milpesillo". A caespitose tree growing in swamp with Mauritia flexuosa and Euterpe sp. (no 4311). Clumps with 7 trees of different ages, growing on a 40 cm high and 100 cm wide mound of innumerable adventitious roots, each root about 0.5 cm in diameter. The trunk 9 m high, 8 cm in diam at the base and 6 cm in diam apically, smooth, brown, longitudinally fissured, the basal internodes 25 cm long, the apical ones 6 cm long, nodes 3 cm wide. The crown of 8 spreading leaves. Leaves with 60 cm long sheath, green to brown, only the 10 basal cm closed, margin fibrous extended into a 10 cm long tube enclosing the younger leaves; petiole 60 cm long, 3 cm wide, blade 320 x 150 cm with 77 pinnae on each side the pinnae unevenly spaced along the rachis. Inflorescence insertedjust below the leaves, orange colored, pointing upwards, with pendant branches, with black fruits, 2 x 2.5 cm. Uses: Oil, less cuantity, but same quality, use and prep. as 4309 |
