| Field notes | Swamp forest. Clumps of upto 50 trees along rivulets. No obvious proproots. Trunk about 5 cm in diam and to 5 or 6 m tall, straight or slightly curved, smooth with 2 cm long leafscars about 20 cm apart and downwards pointing spines between but mostly just below leafscars. Crown of 4-5 fronds. Individual fronds with a 50 cm long heavily spined sheathing base and a 25 cm long less heavily spined petiole; blade about 200 cm long and 140 cm wide with app. 50 pinnae on each side. Inflorescence emerging between leafbases, pendent with attached spathe. Fruits in elongate clumps, yellowish green. Fruits eaten: Bark scraped and used for loading guns. |
