| Field notes | "Quichua: Nana iguantu (El Floripondo contra dolores). Español: Floripondo. Arbusto de 2 metros de altura. Flores rosadas (inf. oral). Usos: Halucinogenic and against rheumatic pains. Preparacion: The sap from the pith is extracted in a quantity that fills the bottom of a cup to a height where it will reach the white part of the nail when the finger is put against the bottom. This sap is drunk and causes halucinogenic vesions much stronger than those caused by the whiteflowered ""Guantu"". The halucinogenic effects is apart of the cure of the disease. When the sap is taken the user sees a devil that comes to take away the way. For very strong pains a special preparation of the plant is necessary. This treatment is the secret of a few people, and the sick person has to s??? the help of s??? a person. The use of this plant is done in secret and only when no other way out of the pain is known. This secrecy is because the use of it is considered a religious sin. Contraindications: Not known." |
