| Field notes | Quichua: Pucachini. Spanish: Urtiga. Uses: For pains in the body and to punish the kids. Preparation: As medicinal the affected part of the body is touched with branches and leaves of the plant which is thereby affected with stinging sensation by the hairs and spines of the plant. Afterwards the treated part is smeared in a cream, e.g. mentol. The time required for the curing effect to occur depends on how severe the pain is. Santos Dea explained that he had a backpain cured with this plant but it took three days to disappear. As punishment for the kids they are simply spanked with a branch and they then behave. |
