| Field notes | Climber, 8 m tall. 10 green leaves. Stem diam. 5 cm. Leaves pinnate with all pinnae in one plane but drooping on each side of rachis. Sheath with dense cover of flat black spines to 7 cm long. Base of petiole bulging at node. Petiole 20-30 cm long, rounded below, broadly channeled above, covered with flat spines to 2 cm long. Lamina 380 x 120 cm, 107 pinnae per side, pinnae w. two rows of small spines below, terminal cirrus 95 cm long, rachis and cirrus with short downwards pointing spines. Infructescences along midsection of stem, emerging from top of sheath attached on outside of sheath; peduncle 30 (+) cm, fruit bunch 20 x 15 cm, 5 first order branches (rachillae); fruit 1.5 x 1.2 cm, slightly flattened. |
