| Field notes | Clustering tree palm to 10 m tall, leaves in uppermost 3 m, ca 8 leaves in crown. Stem ca. 15 cm in diameter, internodes ca 20 cm, green with grey-brown bark when older, nodal scars protruding, 1 cm wide (stepped trunk). Sheaths open, ca. 1 m long, edges fibrously disintegrating. Leaves bipinnate, ca. 11 pinnae per side, 8-9 pinnulae per side mid-leaf. Praemorse on distal margin, asymmetric. Inflorescences interfoliar, oldest at top, protruding ca. 100 cm from sheath, pendulous on recurved peduncle of > 30 cm, 4 cm diameter. Multiple bracts, green forming leathery brown, hooded, ca. 30 x 7 cm. Inflorescence branched to 1 order, rachis tapered, 15 cm long. Ca 75 rachillae, 50 cm long, bright green. Fruits olive green when young, purple-black when ripe, 12 mm long x 15 mm wide |
